General Anesthesia Instructions
A.M. Appointments:
No food or liquids after midnight the night before surgery (including water).
P.M. Appointments:
No food for 6 hours prior to surgery. You can have clear liquids, water, ginger ale (no milk products) up until 3 hours before surgery.
All patients, please note:
- No smoking for at least 12 hours before surgery. Ideally, cut down or stop smoking as soon as possible prior to the day of surgery.
- Do not wear lipstick, excessive makeup, or nail polish on the day of surgery.
- Wear loose clothing, especially around the neck and arms.
- An adult must accompany you to the office to drive you home.
- Plan not to operate an automobile for 24 hours after anesthesia.
- If you have an illness such as a cold, sore throat, stomach or bowel upset, please notify the office.
- If you take routine oral medications, please check with Dr. Walters, Dr. Smith or Dr. Ferguson prior to your surgical date for instructions.
