Born and raised in Baton Rouge, Dr. Demarcus Smith grew up on a small farm, beginning his lifelong love of the land and countryside. Although he originally wanted to be an orthodontist, he was inspired to go into oral surgery during dental school. Dr. Smith’s caring nature and wide breadth of knowledge ensure his patients feel safe and comfortable throughout their treatment as they experience improved oral health.
Dr. Smith went directly to dental school after three years at LSU as an undergraduate, graduating in 1981. He completed his OMS residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, serving as Chief Resident his final year.
Since 1986, Dr. Smith has been involved with the Children’s Hospital Cleft and Craniofacial Team, treating children with facial abnormalities. He is also a member of the Delta Dental Study Club, which focuses on humanitarian efforts in the New Orleans area.
Dr. Smith is board-certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS). In addition to this prestigious certification, he is professionally affiliated with several local and national organizations, including the American Association of Oral Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS), American Dental Association (ADA), Louisiana Dental Association (LDA), New Orleans Dental Association (NODA), and Louisiana Association of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. Smith enjoys the outdoors and loves farming, hunting, and fishing. He is active within his church parish and goes on mission trips, building churches and providing dental work.
