Dental Implants
in Gretna, LA

Dental implants replace missing or damaged teeth with natural-looking artificial teeth. The results are functional, beautiful, and long-lasting.

What Are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is made up of three parts: a post, a connecting abutment, and a crown. The post is surgically placed into the jaw bone. Several weeks after the dental implant placement surgery, the post fuses with the jaw bone. Once healed, the crown—the visible part of the implant—is placed.

Dr. Smith and Dr. Ferguson specialize in dental implant-based tooth restorations in Gretna, LA. Our doctors can place same-day dental implants, single or multiple implants, or full-arch restoration. Contact our practice today to schedule your consultation.

Dental Implant Treatment

Any oral surgery procedure starts with a consultation at our practice. You will meet with Dr. Smith or Dr. Ferguson, who will perform a comprehensive oral evaluation and discuss your goals for treatment.

3D scans will also be taken at this appointment. After the evaluation is complete, a personalized treatment plan will be created just for you. This first visit is also a great time to discuss any questions you may have.

We will schedule your surgery date during this appointment and provide you with pre-operative and post-operative instructions.

Some patients require bone grafting before becoming a candidate for dental implants. If this is the case, you will have a separate surgical procedure before receiving dental implants.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE SURGICAL PROCEDURE

Your surgery will start with the administration of anesthesia. IV sedation is used most of the time, but we have several options to ensure your comfort. Once the anesthesia has taken effect, your surgeon will surgically insert the dental implant post into the jawbone. Sutures will be placed, and you will rest comfortably until you are ready to go home.

Over the next several weeks your dental implant will fuse to the jaw bone. Once healed, a restorative dentist will place the crown. The crown is custom made to blend in with your surrounding teeth.

Frequently Asked Questions: Dental Implants

CAN I GET IMPLANTS IF I HAVE CROWNS, BRIDGES, OR DENTURES?

One of the benefits of tooth implants is that they are very versatile. They can replace one tooth, multiple teeth, or even a full upper or lower arch of teeth through full-arch restoration. They also tend to last much longer than crowns, bridges, or dentures. Contact our office for a consultation to discuss your personal oral health needs.

WHAT DO DENTAL IMPLANTS REQUIRE TO KEEP THEM LASTING A LONG TIME?

Dental implants are easy to care for: just brush, floss, and see your dentist regularly for dental care checkups, just like natural teeth. If you maintain good oral hygiene, your implants will last for the long term.

ARE TOOTH IMPLANTS PAINFUL?

Any oral surgery procedure has some degree of discomfort. However, we make every effort to ensure you are as comfortable as possible before, during, and after the procedure. We will send you home with post-operative instructions so you can have a smooth recovery.
