Dental Implants
in New Orleans, LA

Dental implants are a popular solution for people who are missing one or more teeth. Patients find they can eat, speak, and smile with confidence!

What Are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is an artificial tooth replacement solution. It’s composed of three parts: the implant post, a connecting abutment, and a crown. The implant post acts just like a tooth root, which fuses with the jawbone several weeks after dental implant placement surgery. This fusion is what supports the implant for long-term stability.

Dr. Smith and Dr. Ferguson perform dental implant-based tooth restorations in the New Orleans, LA, area, with offices conveniently located in Metairie and Gretna. If you are interested in replacement teeth with dental implants, contact our office today.

Dental Implant Treatment

If you are interested in learning if dental implants are right for you, we will schedule a consultation appointment to discuss your treatment options with one of our experienced surgeons. Your surgeon will perform an oral examination, review your medical history, and discuss your goals for treatment.

We will also perform 3D scans, which will give your surgeon an in-depth look at your facial anatomy and allow for the most accurate treatment planning. Once complete, your surgeon will create a treatment plan and review the details of this plan with you.

If you require bone grafting, this procedure must be performed before dental implants can be placed. For many patients, bone grafting allows them to become a candidate for dental implants.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE SURGICAL PROCEDURE

When you receive dental implants, your surgical procedure will begin with the administration of anesthesia. In general, IV sedation will be used, but we have several anesthesia options available that we will discuss with you during your consultation appointment.

Once the anesthesia has taken effect, your surgeon will place the dental implant post into the jaw bone. If you are having immediate implants placed, your surgeon will first extract the selected teeth before placing the implants. Once the procedure is complete, sutures will be placed.

Your healing will take place over the next several weeks, and we will provide pre-operative and post-operative instructions to ensure you have a comfortable and successful recovery. Once the implant post has fused with the jawbone, it will be time to place the crown. Your restorative dentist will place the crown, which will be fabricated to blend in with your natural teeth.
